How can I make my writing more exciting?. Vivid Writing Emotional Writing. Replace everyday words with WOW-WORDS. Example: “I saw an old dog ” “I gazed upon an ancient hound ”. Add TWO adjectives to each thing. Example: “There was a house” “A sparkling, modern castle was on the right”.

  2. Replace everyday words with WOW-WORDS Example:“I saw an olddog”“I gazed upon an ancienthound”

  3. Add TWO adjectives to each thing Example:“There was a house”“A sparkling, modern castle was on the right”

  4. Add emotional events & objects “A tiny, golden cat lay bleeding on the side of the road.”“My stomach stabbed with fear as the car swerved to miss an old man on a bicycle.”

  5. Replace “is” verbs with action verbs “There are leather seats in the car”“Shiny, smooth leather cools me in my soft seat.”

  6. Describe using all your senses “My car ride was long”“My mind felt numb as the ride went on forever. I imagined the sweet, tangy taste of candy waiting at home. I could hear the motor rumble and the wheels whirr…”

  7. Use poetic comparison (simile) (metaphor) “The houses were big”“House rose like giants around me. The windows glittered like sightless eyes shaded in silver Ray Bans . The robin-egg blue sky and the yellow-yolk sun made me smile.”
