  4. So what did we do? • Looked at what we needed now • Looked at what we would need • Clean sheet approach • Four main areas: • People • Processes • Systems • Finances

  5. Planning for People • The Hewlett Packard approach • Organisation chart of potential posts • Recruitment planning • Tied into growth • Training Planning • Tied into recruitment and development • Quality Planning • Reviews and performance management

  6. Planning for Processes • Exactly how do things work • Draw them out (e.g. with Visio) • Include timing • Look for “built-in” delays • Get your staff to help • It’s their process • Improve it at the same time

  7. Planning for Systems • What systems do we need • 5 new servers • SQL base for Amtelco future products • Mirrored, high-availability SQL servers • 2 Internet connections • Generator • 2 separately routed fibre PRI lines

  8. Planning for Finance • What do we need? • What don’t we need? • What can be improved? • Staffing using XL Scheduler • Restructuring existing finance • Forecasts

  9. …to small medium • Structure for next 5 years • Business Plan • Tell your staff as well as your bank! • Processes linked and refined • Staffing plan in place • Training plan in place • Staff share business goals • They know their contribution
