  1. Modeling and Simulation of WSN for Target Tracking Presented By: Saurav Kumar Bengani

  2. Outline • Introduction to Modeling and Simulation in WSN • Various platforms for Simulating WSN • Target Tracking in WSN • OMNET++ Network Simulator • Modeling and Simulation of OCO over OMNET++ for Target Tracking • References

  3. Introduction to Modeling and Simulation in WSN The study and research in the area of Wireless Sensor Networks requires large-scale modeling and simulation. It consists: • Modeling of individual Sensor Node. • Modeling of Sensor Network. • Simulation of the Management Technique with various environments.

  4. Various platforms for Simulating WSN • OMNET++: www.omnetpp.org • Mannasim Framework: http://www.mannasim.dcc.ufmg.br/howto.htm • SNSim - WSN Simulator: http://www.ece.northwestern.edu/~peters/sensors/SNSimDescription.pdf • J-Sim Simulation Environment: Ahmed Sobeih; Wei-Peng Chen; J.C. Hou; Lu-Chuan Kung. J-Sim: a simulation environment for wireless sensor networks. Proceedings of the 38th Annual Simulation Symposium, 2005. • Tossim Simulation Environment: http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~pal/pubs/nido.pdf

  5. Target Tracking in WSN Target Tracking is one of the most critical application of WSN in military surveillance operations. It mainly employs: • Detection of the intrusion • Tracking of target movement within the network

  6. Challenges in Target Tracking • How could the sensor detection be modeled and how is the sensing coverage determined? • What are the effects of geographic properties of the field on target detection? • How should the sensors be deployed in the region? • The limitation of sensor nodes such as battery power, sensing radius, communication range, etc. • Tracking accuracy and speed.

  7. OMNET++ Network Simulator OMNeT++ is an object-oriented modular discrete event network simulator. It can be used for: • Traffic modeling protocol modeling. • Modeling queuing networks. • Modeling multiprocessors and other distributed hardware systems. • Validating hardware architectures. • Evaluating performance aspects of complex software systems.

  8. Modeling and Simulation of OCO over OMNET++ for Target Tracking The OCO algorithm is very efficient for Target Tracking in WSN. The three types of environments for OCO simulation are as follows: • Stand by (No intrusion). • Single intrusion. • Multiple intrusions.
