  2. The beginning • Ponce de Leon was a Spanish explorer. He was born on 1460- date uncertain in Santervas, Spain. • He was the first to set foot in Florida. • He also searched for the fountain of youth and other riches.

  3. The first voyage • He sailed from Puerto Rico to Florida. His ships were Santa Maria, Santiago , and San Cristobal with 200 men. • There he found a new land and named it Florida. • Florida means flowery.

  4. The Second voyage • April 8, he left Florida and sailed to Cuba trying to find Bimini. • Instead of finding Bimini, he found Andros Island. • Then he went back to Puerto Rico, and began fighting Native Americans.

  5. Last expedition • In 1521, he went back trying to find Bimini. • He did not find Bimini. • Instead he fought for Muslims.

  6. Death • Ponce de Leon died in Havana, Cuba from a wound on July 1521. • He was buried in Juan, Puerto Rico.
