It has 2 plant powered generators and the main generators weigh about 6,000 tons and has the capacity of 700MW . They expected it to cost $22.5 billion and the U.S helped pay for the Dam. The Three Gorges Dam was constructed to prevent floods and provide hydroelectricity. The Three Gorges Dam is important because it prevents floods from happening, and creates hydroelectric power for towns , cities , and homes.
