  37. Sum of Arithmetic Series MUSIC An artist receives royalties for all CDs of his music that are sold. For the first 10,000 CDs sold, the artist receives $10,000. He receives $12,500 for the next 10,000 CDs, $15,000 for the next 10,000 CDs, and so on. How much money will he receive if 500,000 of his CDs are sold? First, find the number of terms in the series. Since the artist is paid for every 10,000 CDs, the number of terms is 500,000  10,000 = 50. In this sequence, a1 = 10,000 and d = 12,500 – 10,000 or 2500. Use Formula 2 to find the sum of the series. Example 7
