In September 2004, we provide an update on height modernization through the Joint Programs (JPs) across various jurisdictions in Australia, including QLD, NSW, SA, WA, TAS, and NT. Key activities involve checking height differences and adopted bench marks to enhance accuracy. Collaborations with GA, Curtin, and Uni Melbourne are focused on gridding and surface fitting algorithms. Upcoming initiatives include the development of a new combined geoid and correction model, with preliminary surface corrections to be tested using AG98.

Height Modernisation ICSM GTSC F2F September 2004
What else do we have • QLD (~ 290 extra points) • NSW (~70 new test points) • SA (~50 SASZ points) • WA (Perth Metro and other GPS points) • TAS (lower order GPS – AHD test points) • NT (TGN points)
What have we been doing • Jurisdictions checking ANLN height difference looking for improvements • Jurisdictions checking adopted BM heights • GA, Curtin, Uni Melb looking at gridding / surface fitting algorithms • GA updating sections where they need it (WA and SA)
Points in ANLN adjustment6000’s are JP connection9000’s are GPS only points
First attempt at Surface fitting 85% under 0.3m
What’s coming up • Produce preliminary correction surface with AG98 for testing • AUSgeoid200? development (late 2004) • Produce new combined geoid / correction model • Release to jurisdictions for testing
How will it be done • Curtin recommend collocation using all possible data including “test” data • Testing done by iteratively removing one point at a time • Need uncertainties on AHD values and ellipsoidal heights
