  1. Searching For The ImpossibleText: Rom. 2:4-8

  2. Intro • Many throughout time have “searched for the impossible” • Search for the “Fountain of Youth” • Search for the “Golden City” or El Dorado of legend • Search for the Holy Grail • Search for the legendary “Pot of Gold” at end of the rainbow • Search for money thru “Get-Rich-Quick” Schemes, etc… • Why such an outrageous search? • Deceived by someone • Self-deceived • Greed • Looking for the easy way out As there are many physical “impossible searches,” there are also many religious “impossible searches!” Searching For The Impossible

  3. Salvation Without Christ Only name – Acts 4:12 Only way to God – Jn.14:6 Without Christ, can do nothing! – Jn. 15:5 • Must have His blood! • Eph. 1:7: Redemption in His blood. • Mt. 26:28: New covenant in His blood. • Rev. 1:5: Sins released by His blood! Must believe in Him – Jn. 8:24 Some are searching for the impossible in looking for salvation without Christ! Searching For The Impossible

  4. Salvation Without The Sacrifice Of Christ • Some want to believe in Christ but not His suffering & • resurrection! • Coma, not dead, rolled stone away from inside! • He had to go to the cross to reach His goal • Heb. 12:2: The cross was on the way to the right hand of God! • Lk. 24:25-26: Suffering paved the way to His glory! • Died for our sins – Is. 53:3-8, 12; Rom. 5:6-9; I Pet. 2:21-24 • We sinned – Rom. 3:23 • We deserved to die – Rom. 6:23 The just for the unjust – I Pet. 3:18; I Jn. 2:2 Some search for the impossible in looking for salvation without Christ’s sacrifice! Searching For The Impossible

  5. Salvation Without Repentance Some teach one just has to “come as you are” and make no changes! Perish without repentance – Lk. 13:3 • All commanded to repent – Acts 17:30; II Pet. 3:9 • Necessary for forgiveness – Acts 2:38 • A turning from sin (a change of direction) – I Thess. 1:9 Fruits will follow – Acts 26:20 Teaching salvation with no repentance is searching for the impossible! Searching For The Impossible

  6. Salvation Without Baptism Many teach one can get to Heaven without baptism, that it is optional, or for an outward sign of an inward grace Commanded – Mk. 16:16;Acts 2:38; 22:16 Without it, not in Christ – Rom. 6:1-4 • Without it, not have soul-cleansing blood – Rom. 6:1-4 • Baptism “washes away” sin – Acts 22:16 • His blood grants to us grace (Eph. 1:7). • We are to walk in newness of life! (Rom. 6:4) No salvation without baptism! – I Pet. 3:21 Teaching salvation without baptism is searching for the impossible! Searching For The Impossible

  7. Salvation Without The Church There are those who believe they can be saved and not be members of the church, or they can attend any church! • The church was built by Christ – Mt. 16:18 • God adds the saved to it – Acts 2:38-47 • Baptized into the body of Christ, the church! • I Cor. 12:13: All who are baptized are baptized into the church! • Christ is the Savior of the body, the church! • Eph. 5:23: If outside the body, no salvation! • Purchased with His blood! (Acts 20:28; I Pet. 1:17-19) • None saved outside of Christ or His church! • Gal. 3:27-28: Baptized into Christ. (Eph. 5:23) • Col. 1:13-14: Rescued from sin and added to His kingdom, the church! Some search for the impossible looking for salvation outside the church Christ built! Searching For The Impossible

  8. Salvation Without Faithful Service There are those who believe they can be saved and not be faithful! • Faithfulness to God is a lifetime commitment • Rev. 2:10: Death is the finish line! • Faith must work – Js. 2:14-26 • Must improve self – Js. 1:21-26: Must be doers of the word. • Must serve others – Js. 1:27: Visiting the widows and orphans. • Must be in obedience to God – Phil. 2:12-13 Unfaithfulness is condemned – Heb. 10:26-31 • Steadfastness required – I Cor. 15:58 • We are to keep the faith! (II Tim. 4:6-8: Paul finished the race) Some search for the impossible in looking for salvation without working for it! Searching For The Impossible

  9. Conclusion • Many people look for the impossible! • In looking for the “easy way out” they often end up doing more work • There are those today who • spend more time twisting the • Scriptures to defend their • positions, than it would take to • embrace the truth, teach it, and • apply it! • In the end they will be sorely disappointed. • (Mt. 7:21-23; Rom. 14:11-12) • We are to be working for the Lord • (I Cor. 15:58), not for the easy way out! Searching For The Impossible

  10. Conclusion Have you been searching for the impossible? You will never find salvation without: • Christ • His Sacrifice • Repentance • Baptism • His Church • Faithful Service Searching For The Impossible

  11. Conclusion Many spend time on impossible searches, but the Scriptures contain God’s map for the ultimate treasure: Eternal Life! • “Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.” (Rev. 2:10) Rom. 2:4-8 4. Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? 5. But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, 6. who WILL RENDER TO EACH PERSON ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS: 7. to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life; 8. but to those who are selfishly ambitious and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wrath and indignation. Seek after salvation God’s way! Searching For The Impossible

  12. “What Must I Do To Be Saved?” Hear The Gospel (Jn. 5:24; Rom. 10:17) Believe In Christ (Jn. 3:16-18; Jn. 8:24) Repent Of Sins (Lk. 13:35; Acts 2:38) Confess Christ (Mt. 10:32; Rom. 10:10) Be Baptized (Mk. 16:16; Acts 22:16) Remain Faithful (Jn. 8:31; Rev. 2:10) For The Erring Child: Repent (Acts 8:22), Confess (I Jn. 1:9), Pray (Acts 8:22)
