  1. Energy Loss Graduate School of Science, Tohoku University Toshi Gogami 22/May/2013

  2. GEANT4 Simulation Energy Loss • 12C 100mg/cm2 • 208Pb 100mg/cm2

  3. Setup Virtual Detector Target Generate 2344 MeV/c electrons at the center of target e Simulation code : POSI (Default HKS setting) 17°

  4. Simple estimations • 12C 100 mg/cm2 target , X0 = 42700 mg/cm2 ΔE = ( 1.0 – exp(-x/X0) ) * 2344 = 2.8 MeV • 208Pb 100 mg/cm2 target , X0 = 6370 mg/cm2 ΔE = ( 1.0 – exp(-x/X0) ) * 2344 = 18.5 MeV NOTE: Effective thickness 100.0 / 2.0 / cos(17.0°) mg/cm2

  5. Simulation Results (12C) Energy Loss Mean : 3.0 MeV (Estimation:2.8MeV) N(<0.5 MeV) : N(>0.5 MeV) = 1 : 0.023 Most probable energy loss ~ 70 keV

  6. Simulation Results (208Pb) Energy Loss Mean : 20.3 MeV (Estimation:18.5MeV) N(<0.5 MeV) : N(>0.5 MeV) = 1 : 0.097 Most probable energy loss ~ 50 keV

  7. Conclusion • Geant4 simulation results are consistent with the simple estimations • ΔEGEANT4 > ΔEestimation • I think this is because multiple scattering effects
