  1. GOOGLE CHROME MAKES FINAL HTTPS WARNING

  2. Google Chrome has recently issued a warning hinting that they will start prominently displaying the “Not Secure” message on the browser’s bar by October 2018. Also, the same announcement revealed that after October 2018, Google Chrome and almost all Chrome- based browsers such as Vivaldi would be displaying more enhanced security warnings. Given the confirmed move from Google, a lot of site owners and digital marketers particularly those who are operating non-HTTPS websites are starting to worry. This is because when their websites are tagged as not secured, the bounce rates will most likely increase and they might obtain lower sales and conversions.

  3. But despite such concerns, a lot of SEO experts are still optimistic about Google Chrome’s upcoming move since this will eventually encourage all websites to use the HTTPS format. These experts also pointed out that Google was significantly careful in conceptualizing this update. It can be remembered that Google Chrome has already started displaying a green button on the browser bar for a long time to indicate that a website is secure. Thus, Google can now begin flagging insecure sites with the use of a prominent red warning icon. Aside from the warning, it was also revealed that Google Chrome would stop displaying the green icon on secured websites particularly the HTTPS versions since they would be regarded as default condition of every site.  As a result, Google will be regularly making use of the “Not Secure” warning.

  4. Furthermore, Google explained that the upcoming changes would be implemented in two stages. The first stage is set to start in September 2018. This is the stage where Chrome will stop the display of the green warning icon on the websites that are dubbed as safe. The second stage is expected to happen on October 2018. This is the period where Google Chrome will begin providing users with warnings against probable insecure sites using the prominent red icon design for the said purpose. Given of these revelations, site owners and digital marketers are strongly encouraged to convert their websites to HTTPS. This is because seeing the red warning icon when their sites are accessed will surely drive away visitors.
