  6. Dive Tables

  7. Dive Tables If a computer is incapable of managing a dive then it is a table dive. Tables are also useful for pre-dive planning even if you ultimately use a computer to control decompression status.

  8. Your first dive is to 63 feet for 34 minutes. You are out of the water for 2 hours and 34 minutes. The next dive is 51 feet for 16 minutes. Show the dive profiles, including depths, times and repetitive groups.

  9. Dive Computers

  10. Dive Computers • Tool but potentially deadly • Operation—designed for no-D diving • To activate-press button • Diagnostics • Surface sequence cycle • Surface mode • FO2 • Predive planning sequence • Time to fly (24 hrs—broken into 2 displays) • Shuts off automatically in 2 hr. if no dive • Pressing button U/W gives light and temperature

  11. Dive Computers • Once on, computer will automatically start your dive at 5 ft.

  12. Dive Computers • Decompression Mode

  13. Dive Computers • Ascent Rate On ascent, surface mode restarts at 3 ft

  14. Dive Computers • Dive Log Mode

  15. Dive Computers Care • Rinse, don’t spray with propellants, don’t stick stuff in slots • Batteries need changing approx. every 50 activations • If low batt signal—change batteries • Use coin—do not over tighten • Nitrogen calculation for repetitive dives may be lost!

  16. Dive Computers Violations • Conditional—if you break decompression ceiling, unit flashes total ascent time • If you go back down within 5 min., time above stop depth is not counted; if you remain then unit goes to… • Delayed—loading bar starts flashing • exceed ceiling • ceiling > 60 ft. but < 70 ft. • you exceed 330 ft. • Immediate—exceeds units capacity to predict ascent procedure; converts to digital depth timer—everything removed but depth and time displays • ascent from delayed condition • stop much >60 ft.

  17. DIVE COMPUTER GUIDELINES Only those makes and models of dive computers specifically approved by the Diving Control Board may be used. Each diver relying on a dive computer to plan dives and indicate or determine decompression status must have his/her own unit. On any given dive, both divers in the buddy pair must follow the most conservative dive computer. If the dive computer fails at any time during the dive, the dive must be terminated and appropriate surfacing procedures should be initiated immediately. A diver should not dive for 18 hours before activating a dive computer to use it to control their diving. When using a dive computer, non-emergency ascents are to be at a rate specified for the make and model of dive computer being used. Whenever practical, divers using a dive computer should make a stop between 10 and 30 feet for 5 minutes, especially for dives below 60 fsw. Multiple deep dives require special consideration.
