  3. Uniforms • All teams are required to wear a jersey, shorts, socks and shoes. • Knee pads are recommended. • Uniform numbers should range from 1-99. Please note if utilizing the uniforms for basketball the numbers should follow basketball number sequences. • Numbers should be on the front and back center of the uniform and be of a contrasting color of the uniform color. • All athletes on a team wearing undergarments must have like colored undergarments • Jewelry is prohibited • NO DENIM

  4. Uniforms • All team uniforms must have the Special Olympics Logo adorned somewhere on the jersey. Logos may be placed on the front, back or sleeve and may be located on the top of bottom of the uniform and should be visible. Logos may be screen printed or embroidered or may be part of a patch or sticker.

  5. Team Size • A team must have a minimum of 7 players and a maximum of 12 players. • A game may start with only 6 players present. • In order to activate an alternate, a player from the current active roster must be dropped. • Play consists of 6 v 6. • A team is allowed a total of 12 substitutions per game; each player may substitute in a max of 3 times per game.

  6. Court & Rules • Court size: 59 feet long by 29 feet 6 inches wide. • Net Height: 7 feet 4 1/8 inches. • Service line: 29 feet 6 inches in traditional and 14 feet 9 inches from net for modified. • Each team is allotted 2 timeouts per game.

  7. Scoring • Traditional and modified volleyball will utilize rally scoring (you do not need to serve in order to score). • A traditional match is considered when a team wins 3 of 5 games. A modified match is considered when a team wins 2 of 3 games. • A game is won when a team scores 25 points and wins by 2 points or more. In the case of a 24-24 tie, the game continues until one team gains a 2-point advantage. • In the case of a 1-1 or 2-2 tie, the deciding game (3rd or 5th) is played as a tiebreaker with a first team to 15, win by two final.

  8. Game Rules • If a team fails to serve properly, return the ball or commits any other foul, the opposing team receives a point and the ball to serve. • A serving ball touching the net and crossing to the other teams side is to be played and returned. • If a team wins the first 3 games of a match the 4th can be played as long as it does not impede with the next games start time. • Carries and lifts will be called.

  9. Modified Volleyball • Rally Scoring. • Modified volleyball: 32 inches & 8 ounces. • Serve line may be moved up to 14 feet 9 inches. • One assist per serve is allowed. • A time limit of 30 minutes per game may be set. • Each player is allowed to serve a max of 3 consecutive points at service. • 2 of 3 games to 21, win by 2 decides a match.

Terms • Pancake-A play where a defensive player will put his/her hand down on the floor to prevent the ball from hitting the floor • Pass-Usually the first contact by a teammate to the setter • Points to win- 15 or 25 points is required to win a set; in order to win, a team must be at least 2 points ahead ( Competition management may determine other limits in certain situations) • Rally- The act of playing the ball back and forth over the net • Rally Scoring- Each play results in a point unless a replay is directed • Replay- When an official instructs the team to play over the previous point due to an error or other reasons

Terms Continued • Serve- The technique of putting the ball into play • Setter- A player (usually the second team contact) who delivers the ball to a hitter • Side Out/Rotate- When the team wins the serve from the opposing team, the team will rotate one position clockwise, often referred to as a Side Out
