  4. To establish and build Goodwill • Goodwill: • The favorable reputation with customers/relationships • Any communication that helps to develop a better relationship between you and your receiver builds goodwill.

  5. To Persuade • Motivating or persuading others to act in a certain way depends on your ability to convince them of the benefits of said action. • Your relationship becomes more valued when others feel that you are sincerely concerned about them personally.

  6. To Obtain or Share Information • Information is most valuable resource we have. • You need this valuable resource to function successfully and make good choices.

  7. To Establish Personal Effectiveness • Messages that are accurate, easy to understand & error-free, result in positive images of sender. • Messages full of errors cause you to suspect that the sender is careless, thoughtless, or other

  8. To Build Self-Esteem • Positive comments or reactions from others increase self-esteem. • Increased self-confidence has positive impact on your relationships
