  2. The allure of Adriana Ramirez photographs lies neither in technique, nor in composition, but rather in how she uses conventional objects in an unconventional way. These objects remain within their usual contexts and do not change in order to become art. Instead, there is always some kind of twist of reality or something slightly amiss. Or there is repetition of patterns or elements. In other cases, there might be a surprise encounter, or a perverse coincidence.    In any case, Ramirez's strength is her intuitive ability to see, find and capture what is amiss, what is not allowed, what is controversial and what is out of sync. Since photography is her lifestyle, she has an uncanny ability to be at the right place at the right time. Thus sharing her perspective of what is real. Sylvia Suarez Curator

  9. A visual essay is a construction pretty similar to a written or spoken phrase, where the meaning of each elements – images or words- make a tiny turn to be in concordance and built a whole proposition. All this assuming meanings are not static, and that relations between sign, significance and interpreter have a dynamic that can be altered by factors as the “topic” ( the issue talking about), the “social conventions” (the pre-agreements established by the community), “the pertinence” (relation among the phrase’s utility and the conversation’s objectives), and the “circumstance” ( the tacit elements that surround the speakers). A visual essay takes advantage of the sway of each picture between the concepts of presentation and significance. A picture is not a reality and neither a sign. It is always wondering away among these two extremes. Then, is when photography is articulated with others, that it experiences processes of signification analogous as a word when is used and leaves of just re-presenting.

  10. Series: TO FIT IN Visual essay Digital photography 2009 TO FIT IN is a series of pictures and visual essays that speak and question the deep need of everyone to find the “right place”. A huge Lego piece is used to identify and connect the characters.

  15. drawings and sculpture Using unusual materials, recognizable forms appear in front of the spectator, playing with the concept of drawing. SPACE DRAWINGS reverse the logical and geometrical drawing process. In real life, line does not exist as an independent entity; what is perceived on the reality depends on the light's effects on the matter and its planes. On the other hand, in these sculptures line suggests and defines the spaces, inviting the viewer to fill the vacuum since his own experience and recollections.

  18. dibujos espaciales The effect of invisible and imaginable planes is consolidated with the photographs of the sculptures and their shadows. Contrary to what happens in three dimensions, where the gesture is limited and the lines have the rigor imposed by the source of each idea, in the pictures, objects are repeated, distorted, becoming almost a sketch.

  20. paper drawings

  21. paper drawings In a second instance we have the PAPER DRAWINGS where the line is passed by a laser burning the spaces between planes: then the original drawing is put together to reconstruct each one of the lines in a sculptural language –a plane that goes down, other that crosses and a third that goes up-, and in that way giving back to the line its original condition that is the game of light and planes. The minuscule scale in which this happens pretends to offer the spectator a swing between what is perceived (the line) and what it is (the vacuum).

  25. containable And third, the CONTAINABLES. These are solid pieces, semitransparent which are based on the interface (the moment in which man, tool and action cross), of the objects and in the dialog that exists between its aesthetic, semiotic and utilitarian functions. They are the vacuum of elements as common as the spoon or the cup for drinking tea.
