  2. In partners… 1) Share one microscope. Pick up microscope carefully with both hands, one on the arm and one on the base 2) Obtain a slide 3) Place the slide on the middle of the stage, and secure it with the stage clips 4) Make sure the low power (4X) lens is being used 5) While looking through the ocular lens, focus the image with the coarse adjustment knob 6) Centre the image by carefully moving the slide, and refocus if necessary 7) Change the objective lens to medium power (10X) Focus again with coarse adjustment 8) Centre the image if necessary; focus with fine adjustment 9) Change the objective lens to high power (40X) DO NOT USE THE COARSE ADJESTMENT TO FOCUS AT HIGH POWER! Focus only with the fine adjustment 10) Show your teacher when you have a specimen in the middle of your field of vision, with the clearest focus possible
