Project Format From discovery call to close-out, how to make a project work smoothly
My Perspective • National Center for Economic Gardening • Team Leader, National Strategic Research Team • Business Incubation • Executive Director of the Business Incubator Center in Grand Junction, CO • A client and graduate of the Incubation Program • Entrepreneur • Worked in start-ups from restaurants to retail to manufacturing
Discovery Call • The majority of the team leader’s work is completed in an effective discovery call. • Set accurate expectations • Develop a rapport, put the company at ease • Get to the point where the company is as open and comfortable speaking about what they do not know as what they do know. • Understand enough about the company that you have a good picture of their growth strategy • Use the notes that bring the specialists up to speed quickly and efficiently.
Clarification call • Formal and efficient • Make sure all tasks fit with growth strategy
Check in • Review of work • Keep the client engaged • Encourage follow-up conversations with the specialists • Allocate any additional budget
Wrap up • Review of work • Connect the dots….link the deliverables to strategy • Get feedback
