  3. Cut Out Animation Technique • Cut out animation is the oldest technique used to create an animation film. • Do you remember those puppet show from your childhood - well, that is one of the great examples of cut-out animation. • Despite there are being so many advanced techniques but cut out animation remains a popular option for the entertainment industry.

  4. What is Cut Out Animation? • Cut-out animation is one of the oldest and simplest animation techniques and has many forms and variations. • It is a type of stop motion animation using props, flat characters and backgrounds cut from materials such as paper, stiff fabric, card or also photographs. • Cut-out animation involves producing animations using 2D characters, props and scenes cut from materials, such as card, paper or fabric.

  5. Animators divide characters into the smaller parts, piece together the individual cut out shapes and move it in small steps, taking a picture - with a film camera capable of making single images at each step of creating the illusion of movement.

  6. Characteristics of Cut Out Animation • Animators have more difficulty in controlling the movement in cut-out animation than in full cel animation in which scenes and characters are drawn or painted on transparent celluloid sheets, so they need to plan the action accordingly. • Cut-out animation lends itself well to decisive, rapid movement or frenzied, continuous action, which disguises some of the limitations of cut-out characters. • Cut-out animation is a highly personal experience the animator mainly portrays a character, mood or idea just by moving cut-out shapes around using the experience to do so.

  7. Advantage of Cut Out Animation • The advantage of cut out animation for a solo animator is that it requires fewer drawings than full cel animation. • The animator makes use a single drawing cut into pieces to represent a movement that would otherwise require hundreds of cels. • Animators can able to design the cut-out pieces themselves, so the range of subject matter is limited only by their imagination

  8. Computers - Cut Out Animation • Modern animators produce animation in the cut-out style using computers, by replacing cut-out shapes physically with digitized, scanned images. • Cut-out animation is one of the popular technique because it saves your production time and leads to smaller file sizes when compared to full cel animation. • The Comedy Central animated series, "South Park," was initially made using the physical paper cut-outs, but consequently by computer animation, which retained the look and feel of the original episodes. • The South Park animators use high-end software and hardware to create an animation that looks cheap and improper deliberately.
