What is heritage? “Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today and what we pass on to future generations.” UNESCO • Historic buildings and sites • Natural heritage e.g. historic parks, wetlands, red kites, bumblebees • Museums, archives and collections • Cultural heritage e.g. oral history, place names, skills and traditions Outcomes for Heritage, People and Communities

  3. Outcomes for Heritage • Better managed • In better condition • Better interpreted and explained • Identified and/or recorded

  4. Outcomes for People • Developed skills • Learnt about heritage • Changed their attitudes or behaviour • Had an enjoyable experience • Volunteered time

  5. Outcomes for Communities • Environmental impacts will be reduced • More people will have engaged with heritage • Organisations will be more resilient • Local economies will be boosted • Local communities will be a better place to live

  6. Sharing Heritage • Grants from £3,000 - £10,000 • Exploring, sharing, and celebrating community heritage • For not-for-profit groups • 8 week assessment • Can fund up to 100% • No application deadline • Projects have to engage people with heritage

  7. Our Heritage • Grants from £10,000 - £100,000 • Prioritise not-for profit groups • 8 week assessment • Can fund up to 100% • No application deadlines • Projects have to engage people in heritage and achieve outcomes for heritage

  8. Young Roots • For young people aged 11 – 25 years • Grants from £10,000 - £50,000 • Can fund up to 100% • Assessment within 8 weeks • Must have heritage and youth partner

  9. Outcomes Young People: • Developing skills & challenging attitudes • Learning and exploring heritage • Celebrating achievements with the wider community • Having fun! • Helping young people to explore heritage • Partnership of youth and heritage organisations

  10. First World War: then & now • Exploring legacy of the Great War • Grants from £3,000 - £10,000 • Not-for-profit groups • 8 week assessment • Can pay up to 100% • No application deadline • Projects have to meet at least one outcome for people

  11. Gordon Highlanders Museum • Grant of £8,300 • ‘Oh What a Lovely War – The fact, The fiction’ • Young people researching the war to understand more about the impact using collections at the museum • Aberdeen Amateur Opera Society performance

  12. Golden Times Stories • Merkinch Community Centre, Inverness • Grant of £30,500 • Training in oral history for volunteers • Produced films on work, school, play, transport etc. • Celebration showing artefacts • goldenstories.co.uk

  13. Scapa Flow Landscape Partnership • Grant of £1.3m • Led by Orkney Islands Council • 5 year project focused on landscape • Important marine heritage, wildlife, wartime, cultural heritage • Sharing skills – boatbuilding, nature conservation, traditions and stories
