Wang’s Childhood • Studied in Tainan Chong Xue(崇學) Elementary School • His parents didn't approve of his playing baseball because he was thin and weak • after elementary:168cm after junior high:180cm after senior high:190cm • He never gave up although he often felt like vomiting during the practice.

  4. Performance in Teenage Years • entered Tainan Jiansing Junior High School • worked part-time in Tainan Municipal Baseball Stadium as a caddy after school • couldn’t pitch fast in high school • Dr. Ying-Chieh Kao developed Wang's skills • impressive performance attracted agents from other countries

  5. Pitches Fastball: • most commonly used • surprises the batter with its fast speed • can reach a top speed of 157 kph • two seam fastball and four seam fastball • an Achilles’ heel

  6. Pitches Slider: • suddenly slides away from their original path • third fastest pitch in baseball • can damage the pitchers arm if not thrown correctly

  7. Pitches Sinker: • plummets sharply when close to the batter • normally turns out to be a ground ball • hard to control, relatively uncommon

  8. Pitches Curveball: • adds more advantage to right-handed pitchers • snapping wrist and thumb downward when releasing the ball • can easily cause injuries to the pitchers arm

  9. Common Tactics Type One: Strike out • right-handed pitchers better against right-handed batter • rely on catcher’s instruction • depend on catcher to look out for runners • signal the pitcher to perform a pickoff

  10. Common Tactics Type Two: Shift • help of fielders • strong batter who might hit the ball toward one side of the court • moving every fielder to the side

  11. Common Tactics Type Three: Ground Ball • when batter batted a curve ball • easy for the defending team to pick up • fast reaction of baseman

  12. Common Tactics Type Four: Strong Batting • First three only defensive • batters function like fire support in combats • team may still win even if they lost some points to their rivals

  13. Recent injuries • first injured in 2008 during the competition • with Houston • Diagnosed as Lisfranc • (fracture and dislocation of the joints ) • Spend almost half a year to recover • Injured again in 2009 when fighting against Toronto Blue Birds (right shoulder strain ) • Still on the road to recovery right now • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fz2avrCjX08

  14. Family Life • married Chia-Ling Wu in 2007 • first child, Justin Jesse Wang, was born on June 16th, 2009 • weighed 3545 grams • wishes his son to be a broker • doesn't want to give him too • more pressure • hopes to have a second child
