Purposes of Early Assessment Program (EAP) • Early readiness signal • Identify students before their senior year who need to do additional work in English and/or mathematics before entering the CSU • Inform students of readiness • Inform students, families, and high schools of students’ readiness for college-level work in English and mathematics • 12th grade interventions • Motivate students to take needed steps in 12th grade to assure readiness

  3. 11th Grade Testing • Determinations of readiness are based on the scoring of all sections • Portion of the CST (45-55 items) • EAP multiple-choice items (15 items) • EAP essay in English

EAP Test Results Available on the STAR Grade 11 Student Report • The results are on the backside of the report in the lower left-hand corner. • EAP results were sent to districts on CD Rom with STAR results. • Students can access their EAP results online (if the student filled the bubble on the score sheet) at www.collegeEAP.org

  6. Conditionally Ready Mathematics • Any mathematics course with a prerequisite of Algebra 2 • Supervised Online-Learning Course (ALEKS)

Conditionally Ready English • Expository Reading and Writing Course (high school would need to meet criteria for implementation) • Advanced Placement (AP) English • International Baccalaureate (IB) English • English courses approved for extra honors credit (weighted) by the UC (so indicated on the UC Doorways ‘a-g’ course list with a star)

  8. ELM/EPT Exemptions • Demonstrate Readiness on EAP Eng & Math • SAT • 500 CR, 550 Math • ACT • 22 Eng, 23 Math • AP • 3+ Lang & Comp or Lit & Comp • 3+ Calc or Stats

Math and English Success Websites www.csuenglishsuccess.org www.csumathsuccess.org • Free, customized information and tools for students, teachers, and counselors • Checklists and guidance tips for parents (English and Spanish) • Personalized roadmaps with step by step advice and e-mail reminders • Student testimonial videos • Online learning tools

Personalized Roadmap • Students are encouraged to create a roadmap to receive personalized advice about how to best meet the ELM and EPT Requirements • The first step requires students to answer 1-5 questions • The questioning process determines what advice the student will be given • Over 30 personalized roadmaps can be generated depending on student responses

Personalized Roadmap • The roadmap informs students of the series of steps that they should take to become ready for the CSU • All information is provided via customized checklists that students can update in real time • The roadmap can be printed • All items are linked to other pages that provide further detail

Student Testimonial Videos Nicole Jason • Videos were shot of students enrolled in developmental math and English courses at Fresno State and Long Beach State • Videos have proven to be an effective motivational tool in convincing high school students to take the CSU placement requirements seriously

Online Tools – English and Math Test Prep • MATH • Online practice multiple choice tests (free) • ALEKS intelligent tutor online personalized math tutorial ($35) • ENGLISH • Online practice multiple choice tests with personalized feedback (free) • Calibrated Peer Review online essay writing tool (free)

  14. Early Start • Class of 2012 • EPT <138 and all ELM <50 • Must begin ESP in order to enroll for Fall 2013 • 1 unit course for both Eng & Math • Course will cost $182 • Service Campus/Destination Campus • www.csusuccess.org
