FORCES How do forces move objects? January 16, 2014
FORCES ARE: • Any push or pull on an object • Change the direction or motion of an object • Stop, start, move, slow down, speed up, etc… • May be seen or not seen • Measured in Newtons (N)
NET FORCE(Balanced vs. Unbalanced): • NET FORCE means: • Total amount of force on an object • Measured in Newtons still (btw 1 Newton= 0.2248089438741 pound) • Balanced means: • Total amount of force is ZERO (0) NEWTONS • Object will not change its motion • Unbalanced means: • Total amount of force is NOTzero (0) Newtons • Object will change its motion
FORCES AROUND US PICTURE(Left Hand Side) • Pick a sport and draw a picture showing someone participating in it. (Drawings should be neat and colorful) • Identify where forces are acting in the picture. Draw arrows to indicate where the force is coming from and where they are going • Write 1 paragraph to answer the following questions: • Why are forces important in the sport you chose? • Give 2 examples of what would happen in your picture/sport if these forces weren’t present.
