So God said to Noah, ‘I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth’” Genesis 6:12-13

Lesson 4 Promise of the Kingdom “…In you all the families of the earth shall be blessed” - Genesis 12:3 “I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed” - Genesis 12:2-3

The Second Genesis "God ... did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly” - 2 Peter 2:4-5 1 Peter 3:20 “that aforetime were disobedient, when the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water” Noah's whole family of 8 were in the ark, but Ham later fell under the curse (Genesis 9:18-10:32).

Covenant with Abraham Name changed from Abram, meaning “exalted father,” to Abraham, meaning “father of a multitude” - Genesis 17:5 “The LORD did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples; but because the LORD loves you, and because He would keep the oath which He swore to your fathers … Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments” - Deuteronomy 7:7-9 1. Sodom & Gomorrah Matthew 10:15 - Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment, than for that city. • Lot's whole family : Lot, his wife, his daughters - were delivered from destruction - Genesis 19:12 • Lot's wife later fell under the curse when she looked back - Genesis 19:17, 26 1.   7. 4. Jacob & his 12 Sons When God began to work directly with Jacob, He named him Israel, meaning “one who prevails with God” or “a prince with God” - Genesis 32:24-30 1. The Second Genesis 2. Sodom and Gomorrah • Israel’s descendants were known as “the seed of Abraham,”“the House of Isaac,”“the House of Jacob” or simply “Jacob”. • Jacob later adopted Ephraim and Manasseh, his grandsons through his son Joseph, as his own sons with regard to his inheritance.

  9. Discussion Questions Promise of the Kingdom How did God prepare the patriarchs in setting up the Kingdom of Israel? What do you think God’s intentions were when He set up Israel?
