  2. Hi boys and girls, Have you ever been interested in the sport of basketball? Do you know what basketball is or how to play? Michael Jordan

  4. The NBA is the professional league for basketball. Here, the top basketball players compete for the National Championship.

  5. But before we can hope to be THAT good…let’s start with the basics!

  9. James Naismith invented the game of basketball in 1891, in Springfield, Massachusetts.

  10. The first basketball games were played with a soccer ball and two peach baskets.

  11. James Naismith originally implemented thirteen rules for basketball.

  12. The first version of the actual basket ball was created in 1942. (51 years after the game was invented)

  15. Running with the ball without dribbling is called TRAVELING

  16. Once a player picks up their dribble, they cannot dribble again, until they make a pass. If this rule is violated, it is called DOUBLE DRIBBLE

  17. A player on offense cannot stand in the lane (see diagram) for more than three seconds.

  18. Players must not have physical contact with others. If they do it is called a FOUL
