Homophones Lesson. Homonyms - A big category--the umbrella— under which we find homophones and homographs. Homonym = Homo (“ same ”) spelling and sound , but different meanings. Homophones= HOMO (" same ") + PHONE (" sound ") , pronounced the same , but different spellings and meanings.

  2. Homonyms - A big category--the umbrella— under which we find homophones and homographs. Homonym = Homo (“same”) spelling and sound, but different meanings Homophones= HOMO ("same") + PHONE ("sound") , pronounced the same, but different spellings and meanings. Homographs= HOMO ("same") spelling GRAPHS ("writing") different meanings and pronunciations

  3. Homophones are words that sound alike...but have different spelling and meanings.

  5. aloud - out loud allowed - to permit

  6. ate - to have eaten eight – the number

  7. aisle - passageway I’ll – I will isle – land mass

  8. bold - to act daring or brave bowled – to have played the game of bowling

  9. be- to exist bee – a four-winged insect

  10. beet- a vegetable beat– to hit or strike

  11. by - along side of buy – to purchase

  12. scent - smell cent – a penny

  13. chews - to grind with teeth choose – to select

  14. dear - something or someone valued deer – an animal

  15. do - to perform due - owed dew – moisture on a surface in the morning

  16. flower - a blossom flour– an ingredient for baking

  17. hear - listen to here - now

  18. He’ll - he will heel – back part of the foot heal – to cure

  19. not - a word expressing denial; negation knot- loop

  20. meat - beef, pork, or chicken meet – to get together

  21. know - to be acquainted with no - refusal
