Families. Family Relationships are Important!. They teach us how to love and what being loved is like. They teach us who we are, who we want to be, and what feeling accepted or rejected is like. They are powerful because they influence our emotions and help shape our character.

  2. Family Relationships are Important! • They teach us how to love and what being loved is like. • They teach us who we are, who we want to be, and what feeling accepted or rejected is like. • They are powerful because they influence our emotions and help shape our character.

  4. Nuclear Family • A family in which a mother, a father, and one or more children live together.

  5. Blended Family • A family that results when divorced or widowed parents remarry; The parents and their respective children from previous marriages live in the home together

  6. Single-Parent Family • A family with one parent living at home with the children.

  7. Extended Family • An emotionally close family that includes relatives outside the central family unit.

  8. Couple Family • A family in which only a husband and wife live together in a healthy family.

  9. Adoptive Family • It is a legal process through which adults are given permanent guardianship of children who are not their biological children.

  10. Foster Families • A person or married couple who is not related to the children agree to house and raise the children for a period of time.

  11. Characteristics of Healthy Families • Effective Communication: This helps prevent misunderstandings, build healthy relationships, and express oneself.

  12. Characteristics of Healthy Families • Respect: As families grow they learn to show respect for each other. • Respect means refraining from verbally or physically hurting another person. • Honoring each other’s privacy • Treating other’s possessions with care.

  14. Characteristics of Healthy Families • Love: a feeling we receive from others in the family express affection and unconditional support to us. • Healthy family members encourage, strengthen, and show compassion towards each other.

  15. Building Healthy Family Relationships • Improve how you behave toward your parents by being mature. • Show your family love, compassion, and respect. • Being considerate to others. • Listen to what parents ask to be done. • Helping others with chores or projects.

  16. Tips for Coping with Family Problems • Confront the problem. • Evaluate the problem as best you can. • Take action • Don’t give up.
