Your child is a star in the ‘Stang Stage Universe! • Advanced Theatre is a production-driven course, in contrast to a curriculum driven course. • Students learn integral theatrical knowledge through the production of shows both onstage and back stage. • All students are expected to stay in good academic standing for eligibility.

Calendar • Access calendar through Netschool: • Log into http://moodle.nisdtx.org using your student’s ID # and password—This is the PRIMARY calendar • October 4: Boo U at Six Flags @ noon • October date TBA for Zombie Walk Fundraiser (more info coming) • October 16-17: One Act Play auditions after school • ?November 20: Jr. ITS Texas Thespians Convention Day • ?November 21: Medlin Talent Show (audition dates TBD) • December 8-11: Elementary school tours (mornings, before school) • December 11 & 12: Children’s Play performances • Both nights @ 6:30 pm (call 4:30 pm) • Friday night Cookies & Cocoa with Santa • December Holiday party: Where and When???

Calendar (cont) • January 9: Evening of Monologues (help/perform) • February 13: One Act Play public performance at BNHS • Only required for cast and crew or ITS students • Saturday, February 21: NISD One Act Play Clinic (location TBA) • Would like all students to attend • February 24: NISD UIL One Act Play Contest at BNHS • All students will attend • March 26 & 27: Theatre 1 Showcases • Students help corral and assist • April 16-17: Spring Show • May 21: Evening of Student-Directed Scenes • ?May 23: Medlin Theatre Banquet (location TBD)

Show Expectations • Every student is expected to participate in every show, either in an acting or technical capacity. • MOST rehearsals will be in-class, but an occasional after school or Saturday work call may become necessary. • Tech and Dress Rehearsals during the week of each show are after school, and are a requirement. • Students’ call time is immediately after school. Plan on them staying here and having food or money. • Strike will be following EVERY show. • They must stay to help clean up • No one leaves until the job is done

Theatre Handbook • Online in Netschool & on Teacher website • It will include: • Extra-Curricular Code of Conduct • Advanced Theatre Expectations • Stage Rules & consequences • Any field trip forms will be handed out and must be signed for participation • Each show will require a signed contract…student & parent signature required

  9. Cookies & Cocoa With Santa • Friday, December 12th , 2014 • 6:30 pm • Students call time & volunteers: 4:00 Activities & Pics 6:30 pm; Show 7:30 pm • Need TONS of volunteers – check emails!! • Parent committee?

UIL OAP Competition • Official UIL Contest this year!! • Includes all five NISD middle schools, plus two Southlake middle schools • All UIL rules & regulations in place • Eligibility is a MUST • Timing and cast regulations in place • Takes place during one school day • Date: February 24, 2014

  11. UIL OAP (cont.) • Auditioned and cast outside of Advanced Theatre • All rehearsals outside of school hours • Before school during tutorials • After school on Mon., Tues., and Thurs. • Eligibility and conduct checks • ALL advanced students attend UIL festival!!

  12. Holiday Party & Banquet • Holiday party in December • Need host house or location • Wraps up Secret Buddies for fall • End of the Year Banquet • Themed & Awards given • Need parents to oversee this • Find & secure location • Plan menu

  13. Ugh…Fundraising • Yes we’ll need to do it…but here’s the difference: • Zombie Walk in December? • Cookies & Cocoa with Santa • Dessert Theatre in the Spring • Program ads/messages? • Need a parent to coordinate • Flowers for cast/crew? • Need a parent to coordinate

  14. Other options… • NEF Account • Businesses can make a charitable donation to the Medlin Theatre Department and receive a TAX CREDIT!! • Would need a parent to coordinate • Business or Local donations • Would need a parent to coordinate

T-shirts • Department shirts ordered in bulk • T-shirts usually between $13 and $15 • Offering sweatpants for $17 • T-shirts are required attire for all field trips, show days, and UIL OAP contest • Design & order forms coming soon! • Optional show shirts to be discussed later • Usually handmade, not ordered • Will be done in the Spring

  16. Makeup Kits • Each student is required to purchase a personal makeup kit for classroom and show use. • May purchase from one of the vendors ($17-20) • May purchase in my bulk order ($19) • All key information is on Netschool

  17. Volunteer Opportunities • Oodles and oodles!! Check emails and look for SignUp Genius links! • Chaperones for before and after shows in dressing rooms • Carpool drivers for Elementary tours • Hosts for holiday party • Set & prop builders/painters • Costume sewers/builders • Cookies & Cocoa with Santa helpers • Meals for show days • And many, many more!!
