  3. Dear Newsroom.... Blogging this from the comfort of my bed to the whole world! Scandinavia’s well ahead with it’s blog-led news networks, no wonder they’re ranked as having the greatest media freedom! Technology generated by the developed world is helping to defend and uphold media freedom elsewhere. However, this carries connotations of cybercolonialism There are still limits in Oz, stateside and back home to journalists on the ground ...and of course, with technological freedom comes responsibility, media outlets need to maintain acceptable standards of reporting news online The BJs and the IJs The Newsroom University College Falmouth Jules xxx

Dear Newsroom…… • Press freedom often considered a luxury • Not a necessity in the developing world • Digital technology often initially welcomed by repressive regimes • In the developing world • But when challenged regimes have quickly responded • by taking control of the internet • and closing down “dangerous sites” • The internet is a cheap and effective form of communication • Also cheap and easy to shut down • There is definitely a link between poverty and • press and broadcasting freedom • But some countries buck the trend.
