  1. Bonifacio Global City– A City With a Soul

  2. Bonifacio Global City is not your ordinary city; it aims to stand out – cultural-wise, that is. Bonifacio Arts Foundation Inc. (BAFI) spearheaded the public art program with the goal of making the city ‘a city with a soul.’ BAFI started the program in 1996 by placing public art installations in open spaces. Today, there are at least eight interactive public arts in BGC either as contest winners or directly commissioned by the Foundation.

  10. Further, there are other sculptural installations in High Street. These are Specific Gravity (boulder fountain), Hearsay (twisted pipes), Unbearable Lightness (centrifugal-patterned gravity-defying cantilevered structure), Presence (floor chimes) and TINSTAEJ #85 (There is No Such Thing as Eternal Joy; teddy bear silhouette). These are the kid-friendly activities. According to BAFI, the installations do not only enrich the visitor experience, but they also seek to integrate art to the dweller’s everyday lives. For instance, the Foundation commissioned local artists to stylized the city’s trash bins into attention-grabbing works of art. These art pieces also aim at evoking a sense of place among those who are living or working in the BGC area. Some pieces even purport to promote nationalism and cultural sensitivity such as the Ang Supremo.

  11. The artworks, nevertheless, are not only strategically located to its current positions. One criteria is the art installation must be universally accessible. It should be viewable and can be experienced by as many people from all walks of life without the need for complicated explanations. Of course, it must be stimulating and engaging. The artworks must be meaningful to the immediate environment where they are installed. They should encourage the people to experience the artwork, so they should be touchable. Anyhow, art should be enjoyed by the people. To imbibe holistic sense of artistry, BAFI and other private organizations also organize art-related activities. Examples of these are street performances, film showings, public concerts, art interactions and even flea markets. Indeed, Bonifacio Global City is setting the standards higher on how street life in the country should be. If only the rest of the country can take inspiration from the city’s public art program, then there is no reason our quality of life will not improve.
