  5. RULESare made by people in authority who love us … MOM & DAD • Rules protect us from DANGER • Rules keep usHEALTHY • Rules keep us inHARMONY withothers

  6. Similarly, God made RULES for the Israelites … • 3 months after leaving Egypt, Israelites reached Mount Sinai • God reminded Moses of His might & power, when He freed them from Pharaoh.

  7. God gave the Israelites rules because He loves them • If they obey God. They will be His special people! • No one must go up or touch the mountain • They have to cleanse themselves in preparation • This reminds us of … Holy Communion

  8. On the 3rd day, thunder, lightning … loud trumpet blast … thick cloud of smoke & fire • The people trembled! • God gave Moses the 10 Commandments

  9. THE 10 COMMANDMENTS 1 I am the Lord your God. You shall have no other gods before me FAITHFULNESS • Do you put God above ALL … toys, TV, friends?

  10. THE 10 COMMANDMENTS 2 You shall not make for yourself any carved image, and not bow down to them nor serve them WORSHIP • Is anything keeping you from God:laziness, toys?

  11. THE 10 COMMANDMENTS 3 You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain RESPECT • Do you use God’s name in an unholy manner?

  12. THE 10 COMMANDMENTS 4 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy SANCTIFICATION • Do you come to church (early) on Sundays?

  13. THE 10 COMMANDMENTS 5 Honor your father and your mother RESPECT PARENTS • Do you always obey mom & dad?

  14. THE 10 COMMANDMENTS 6 You shall not murder RESPECT EACH OTHER • Do you love & pray for everyone?

  15. THE 10 COMMANDMENTS 7 You shall not commit adultery PURITY • Do you have pure thoughts, words & actions?

  16. THE 10 COMMANDMENTS 8 You shall not steal HONESTY & GENEROSITY • Do you love others by giving & sharing?

  17. THE 10 COMMANDMENTS 9 You shall not bear false witness TRUTHFULNESS • Are you always honest & not tell lies?

  18. THE 10 COMMANDMENTS 10 You shall not covet THANKFULNESS • Are you happy & thankful for what you have?

  19. “If you obey My voice and keep My commandments, you shall be a special people to Me above all nations” (Exodus 19:5)

  20. This week … • Put God first … prayin morning, meal time, bed time – JESUS PRAYER • Set a time to read the Bibleevery day • Stop using God’s name in unholy ways • Come to church earlier on Sunday, confess, bring Spiritual Notebook • Obeyyour parentswith joy!

  21. This week … • Love& respect everyone • Be pure … Don’t look at bad things, do bad things, think bad thoughts • Be generous, give… your time, effort, love • Be honest with your words & actions • Be thankful & happywith what you have!
