New Teacher InductionRationale and Proposal • Rationale: • New structure of TLA required us to be different; if we must be different how can we be better? • Based on responses from the PLAT Survey and responses from our New Teacher Survey changes regarding NTO and mentors • According to the “Missouri Professional Development Guidelines for Student Learning”: • Members of the District Professional Development Committee play a significant role in the planning and implementation of school based New Teacher Orientation • Members of the District Professional Development Committee assist in the selection of the mentor (with principal)
New Teacher Induction:Rationale Continued • Based on the results from the New Teacher Survey the most effective part of our program was the one-on-one time with the district coach (all levels) • The proposed model utilizes the Instructional Coach in this capacity (Elem and Middle) • The proposed model utilizes the high school coaches will continue to fulfill this capacity in 2013 – 2014 • The proposed model is considering Early Childhood – TBD (Ann?) • Counselors - TBD
NTI Foundations • Personalized and Differentiated • Utilize the Domains of Professional Practice • Include Learning Walks • Large Group – Include District Focus AND Time to Talk with Peers (Two per year) • Site Based Cohort (Before or after school determined at the building level based on building needs with ideas for focus (e.g. the teachers role in the IEP Process)) facilitated by IC, Administrator and/or PLAT Rep • Instructional Coaches and District Coach (HS) – Mentor of Record and Coach
New Teacher Induction Role of PLAT • PLAT Rep and Administrator (Team) Plan Building NTO (1/2 Day Plan and ½ Day at Building NTO Day) PROPOSAL: • Instructional Coaches (Elem., Middle, and High) will be the Coach and Mentor of Record • 2 weeks into school PLAT Rep, IC and administrator meet with new teacher to determine the colleague to be “their person” Go-To-Person • Administrator, PLAT Rep, or IC will ask the person if they are willing to be the new teachers Go-To-Person for the year. • PLAT Rep sends names of Go-To-Person and the new teacher to Coordinator of Professional Learning
Go-To-PersonProposal • Go-To-Person - a person you can go to for help, advice or information (Dictionary.com) • Responsibility of the Go-To-Person is simple • Check in with the new teacher every few weeks • Be a friend and confidant • Will receive a monthly e-mail on the phases of the new teacher • “Go to person” will earn – “go to person” will submit a reflection to the Coordinator of Professional Learning regarding what they learned from serving in this role (details TBD) • .5 District In-Service Credit • .5 District In-Service Credit (working with new teacher development 2014 – 2015)
Personalized Professional Learning Proposal • Five people participated in the pilot • Very successful • More will be added next year • If you are interested in helping me design more courses…we will have a work day in June (TBD) SEND E-MAIL (I’m thinking the week of June 10th (Mon. or Wed.))

Summer Development • Offered more options than in the past • Several offered for credit only • Staff $$$$$ Limited – how to offer more with less – courses for credit only • Tech Classes– Additional classes added in July (including EdLine – credit only) • Registration is open for tech classes and classes offered by coordinators
