  1. Acts 2: 41-47 Who wrote ‘Acts’? Luke’s Gospel and Acts were written by the same person. They are attributed to a man named Luke, who may have been a disciple of Paul, and were believed to be written approximately 85CE. Why was it written? Acts was written by the Gospel of Luke writer to show the impact that Jesus’ death and resurrection had on his followers. Just before Jesus’ crucifixion, the disciples had deserted him. However, after his resurrection they became changed people who had received the Holy Spirit and were willing to risk their lives to spread Jesus’ message.

  3. Acts 2: 41-47 The word ‘Church’ means a GATHERING, not just the building it occurs in. Baptism: This scripture discusses baptism. Baptism in the time of Jesus occurred in a river. 3000 people were said to be baptised in this scripture, however this number may have been an estimate to explain that there were a large number of people wanting to join the new church. Jesus’ Teaching for the new churchAfter Jesus’ death, the gifts of the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples. This did not mean flames just rested on them. It meant that they were now able to understand the message Jesus was telling people to follow. This was the beginning of the new church. Believers promised to teach others this way of living. This was to pray, to celebrate the Eucharist and to live together as a community.
