  10. OSSLT Reading Task Information 2. Each task will be followed by 1-10 multiple choice questions. The test will ask you to: “record the best or most correct answer on the student answer sheet”. Types of Multiple Choice Questions: • Explicit • Asking what is directly stated in the text. • Implicit • Asking about what is hinted at in the text. • MakingConnections • Asking you to draw on your own knowledge and relate it to what you have just read.

Some texts will also be followed by an open response question (6 lines each). • Opinion: • What was your favourite game as a child and why? • Summary: • State a main idea of this selection and provide one specific detail from the selection that supports it. • Reading Comprehension: • What does the schedule change show is a priority for the staff at this school? Use specific details from the selection to support your answer. • How is the town encouraging a sense of belonging? Use specific details from the selection to support your answer.

  14. Tips for Answering Multiple Choice Questions • Read the questions before you do the reading. 2. Highlight and underline any key words in the question. 3. Read through the passage, looking for the key words that you highlighted or underlined in your questions. 4. Try answering the multiple choice questions! Use these strategies: • Re-read the question. • Cover the choices and think about what you would give as an answer. • Look at the choices given (make sure you look at all the answers before making your final choice). • If the question asks you something that you’re not sure about see if there are any answers you can cross out (you know that they’re wrong). • Mark any questions that you’re not sure about and finish the rest of the booklet. After you have tried the whole booklet, go back to the questions that you marked and guess! You have a 1 in 4 shot of it being right– never leave an answer blank!
