  1. What in the world is PBIS?No…sorry not a Peaceful Beach In Summer! 

  2. PBIS stands for : Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports

  3. Why do we need PBIS? • PBIS is a district wide initiative. • We want to ensure that students are safe, respectful and responsible while at school and to provide a positive learning environment. • To achieve this goal, we must focus on teaching and acknowledging positive behavior for ALL students in ALL areas of the building. • PBIS is a proactive, systematic approach in preventing and responding to classroom and school discipline issues. Our emphasis is on developing and maintaining a safe environment where teachers can teach and students can learn. = MORE TEACHING TIME FOR US! 

  4. Things we already do to acknowledge positive behavior… • Citizen of the month • Class rewards (marbles, COMPLIMENT, brownie points) • Clip-up charts, Sticker Charts • Rules are worded in a positive way • “On the Spot” good phone calls home

  5. We want to focus on 3 Behavior Goals so that our students are: • Respectful • Responsible • Safe

  6. Gayhead Grizzlies: Remains Safe Respectful Responsible

  7. What it means to be kind, safe, and responsible at Gayhead is outlined in our behavior matrix.

  8. Catch kids being “Beary” Good: Staff will be looking for students who are being RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, or SAFE. If you see a student being “beary good”, give them a slip and acknowledge the behavior. “Thank you for walking so nicely!” The student will bring the slip back to their class and put it in a bucket. I was caught being Beary Good!

  9. PAWS for SUCCESS! At the end of the month you will count your class slips and give them to your PBIS team member. The totals will be posted in the lobby. The class with the most caught you being good slips will receive a special treat along with their picture posted in the lobby.

  10. Where are we going with PBIS?

  11. Creating posters for around the building • Creating lessons to explicitly teach behaviors • Voice Volume across the building • Common language and expectations across the building. • Collect data and make changes

  12. Emergency Voices: assertive, loud voice to be heard above all other noise.
