  1. Modernisation of European Enterprise and Trade Statistics - MEETSOECD-Working Party on International Trade in Goods and Trade in Services Statistics (WPTGS) – 16-18 November 2009

Objectives of the MEETS programme • To review priorities and develop target sets of indicators for new areas • To achieve a streamlined framework for business-related statistics • To support implementation of a more efficient way of producing enterprise and trade statistics • To modernise Intrastat  Further broken down into ~ 25 projects

  3. Project “Economic indicators on globalisation” Aim: • To further develop economic indicators on globalisation using the OECD Handbook on Economic Globalisation Indicators as a reference Actions: • Internal project group created, publication of already available indicators, work shops with EU MS, feasibility and methodological studies Expected results: • Dissemination and publication of indicators

  4. Project “Developing Statistics based on enterprise groups” Aim: • To identify useful and meaningful indicators for enterprise groups. Either enterprise group as statistical unit or economic phenomena related to enterprise groups Actions: • Work shops with EU MS, feasibility and methodological studies Expected results: • Indicators for enterprise groups, agreed methodological guidelines

  5. Project “EuroGroups Register (EGR)” Aim: • To develop and implement the methodology, processes, systems and organisation of the EGR Actions: • 2 ESSnets on profiling and methodology, work shops, feasibility and methodological studies Expected results: • EGR network, which is used as a population frame by NSIs and NCBs to define survey populations and to produce coordinated statistics on globalisation

  6. Projects on consistency (3) Aim: • To provide a methodological, sustainable and cost-effective harmonised framework of business and trade statistics Actions: • ESSnet consistency, work shops, feasibility and methodological studies Expected results: • Consistency between legal acts and methodology on business and trade statistics improved

  7. Projects “Linking business and trade statistics” Aim: • To further develop indicators which combine variables from external trade and business statistics  structure of enterprises active in trade, impact of trade on production, employment and enterprises' performances Actions: • Feasibility and methodological studies Expected results: • Harmonised set of new indicators of European enterprises involved in internal trade

  8. Project on international sourcing Aim: • To link data from the survey of international sourcing with data on structural business statistics Actions: • Implementation in 9 MS Expected results: • New statistical data on the impact of international sourcing on employment and the economic impact of international sourcing

  9. Projects on foreign trade (7) Aim: • To improve thequality of foreign trade statistics as well reducing statistical requirements and minimising the burden on enterprises Actions: • Feasibility, methodological and technical studies Expected results: • Modernised and simplified foreign trade statistics
