  1. Let’s Learn About the parts of the sewing machine This presentation will show you pictures of the part and the Name of the part with a description of the part’s function

  2. This is a Sewing Machine

  3. The reverse leverallows you to stitch in reverse. We use reverse to make our stitches secure at the beginning and end of seams.

  4. The pattern selectorlets you determine what kind ofstitch you will be making, such as straightstitches or an embroidery stitch or zig-zag.

  5. Stitch lengthdetermines the length of the stitch The range on this machine is from 0 to 4 (0=the shortest stitch, 4=the longest).

  6. The bobbin winderwinds the thread from the spool to the bobbin, mechanically.

  7. TheSpool pinholds the spool of thread.

  8. Thread tensiondetermines the tightness or looseness of the stitch.

  9. The pressure dialdetermines how much pressure the presser footwill have on the fabric. Use More pressure for light fabrics, & less pressure for heavy fabrics.

  10. The face plateis a cover that covers all the inner working parts of the sewing machine.

  11. The check spring holderis actually hidden in this machine. It works with the thread tensionto slow down the amount of the thread going to the needle.

  12. The sewing lighthelps you to thread the needle and to see your stitching.

  13. Feed dogsare a teeth-like part that works with the presser foot to pull your fabric through the machine.

  14. The throat platehas stitching guide lines on it and has a hole for the needle to pass through to the bobbin casing.

  15. The slide plateis a clear plastic cover that covers the bobbin case to keep dust and dirt out of the moving parts area of the bobbincase.

  16. The presser foot holds the fabric against the feed dogs; so the feed dogs can pull your fabric through the machine.

  17. The needle clampis a black clamp that tightens to hold the needle in place.

  18. The presser foot liftergently lifts the presser footup and lowers it against the feed dogs. Thepresser footmust be lowered before you begin to sew; or fabric will not move through the machine!

  19. The take-up-lever pulls the thread back after each stitch, so that the stitches will lay evenly into the fabric.

  20. The handwheel raises and lowers the needle. You must always pull the handwheel towards yourself toprevent tangling of the threads.

  21. The clutch knobis located inside of the handwheel. It is a safety feature of the sewing machine that when pulled out, prevents the needle from jabbing up and down when winding a bobbin.

  22. The power switchturns on the power on the sewing machine (and also turns off the power) electrically.

  23. The power socketconnects the power source to the sewing machine.

  24. The foot pedalcontrols the speed of the sewing machine.

  25. The thread cutterscut the threads at the end of a row of stitching to disconnect your fabric from the sewing machine.
