  1. Conjoined Twins Another Presentation By Ben Colandrea

  2. Other Types of Conjoined Twins • This Wikipedia on Conjoined Twins clearly demonstrates the different documented types of conjoined twins. • Each type of conjoined twins possesses its own difficulty whether the twins are Carniopagus or Parapagus or anything in between.

  3. Problems Associated With Conjoined Twins • There are several problems associated with conjoined twins. One of the largest problems is the lack of knowledge associated with conjoined twins. Nobody knows the reasoning for conjoined twins and they are a very rare occurrence. While many theories have been rumored through the years, nobody knows why this happens. Theories of egg difficulties during pregnancy seem to be the most legitimate conclusion.

  4. Before Birth • Among the major complications with conjoined twins is the fact that they often do not survive birth and die in the womb. It is also very difficult to give birth to conjoined twins since it is in fact more then one baby being pushed through a space designed for one baby.

  5. Early Years • If the baby survives birth, then he/she/they, must struggle to even live to the point of which they can have the opportunity to be separated. The few that survive long enough to have the opportunity to be separated still may be unable to be separated as a result of the parts of the body that are conjoined (for example if there is just one heart, then they could not be seaparated).

  6. Life Expectancy • Based upon the case of the conjoined twins, the life expectancy is rather short do to the difficult lifestyle. Some twins have a parasitic twin in which one must be removed so the other can live, so the life-expectancy is very vague. Also affecting life expectancy is whether or not the twins are separated and at what age they are separated.

  7. Conclusion • Conjoined twins must live through many difficulties and fight everyday to survive. Many of the illustrations demonstrate how terrible some of attachments can be. In any case a life such as this, however long it may be, is a strain also on the parents. A solution to this kind of fusion would truly be a feat that would be equivalent in potency to that of a cure for cancer.
