  1. JesusThe Miracle Worker By: Julia Vick, Caroline Driehaus, and Anna Cole

  2. What is a miracle? A miracle is an effect or extraordinary event in the physical world that surpasses all known human or natural powers and is ascribed to a supernatural cause.

  3. Water to Wine (John 2:1-11) 27-28 AD In this picture Jesus is turning water in to wine at a wedding in Cana. Jesus went to the wedding with his mom and disciples. The wine ran out so Jesus filled six stone jars with water and served it to them. When they drank it, it turned into wine.

  5. The first miraculous catch of the fish (Luke 5:4-10) 28-29 AD When Jesus finished speaking to the crowd on the shore of the Sea of Galilee he told Simon to let the nets down for fishing. Simon let the nets down even though they did not catch anything all day. When they brought the net back up, they saw the net was filled was fish and the net started to break. Simon fell on his knees in front of Jesus and told him to keep away because he was a sinful man. Jesus said don’t be afraid your catch now will be men.

  7. Calming the storm (Mark 4:35-41) After teaching Jesus and his disciples were riding in a small boat that was crossing the lake. The winds blew the waves into the boat and the boat started to sink. The disciples went to Jesus to ask him if he cared that they were drowning. Jesus told the winds to hush and be still. Then he questioned his disciples faithfulness.

  9. Feeding the five thousand (Mathew 14:13-21) 29-30AD When the crowds heard of the death of John the Baptist they followed Jesus out of town. They were going to be sent away for food when Jesus said that there was no need for them to go away and he would feed them. All they had was two fish and five loaves of bread but Jesus told them to bring it to him. He thanked God broke the bread and passed it out and everyone was satisfied. They also had 12 baskets of leftovers.

  10. What did people think of these miracles? • Some people think the miracles were actual events. Others think miracles could be a metaphor. • When some people heard about the calming of the storm they wondered who the man could be, who told the winds what to do. • Some may think this is a metaphor which teaches us to always stay faithful to God • After the calming of the storm more people thought he was the Messiah, but some still lacked belief.

  11. Continued… • Some believe the water to wine, feeding the five thousand, and the first catch of the fish miracle is a metaphor that teaches us that God will always be there for us and anything is possible when you have faith in God .

  12. Relation to the New Testament This relates to the New testament because when we learn about Jesus’s life, we can understand how Jesus demonstrated that he was the Messiah to his followers. This is important in the New Testament because the New Testament follows the story of Jesus’s life, and a major part of his adult life was performing miracles and teaching followers about God.
