Warming Up Paraphrase what the prompt is asking us to do… Basically, the prompt is asking us… The main thing we are arguing is… Due Dates: End of Trimester: Friday, March 14th Essay Due: Friday, March 14th *Even if you have not been here for the past few days, please listen carefully to the mini-lesson on Body Paragraphs. I will work with you individually to make sure you are caught up*
  4. Body Paragraphs: Using the organizer What important components should be included in your body paragraphs? We’re going to use a format called R.E.E.L. Reason: What is the main point of your paragraph? What do you want the reader to know? Evidence: Find quotes, examples, or page numbers to support your reason Explain: In your own words, explain what the quote means (2-3 sentences) Link: Connect this point, evidence, and explanation to the next paragraph you are about to write
  5. Making your Points For the next 15 minutes, brainstorm and decide on the three points that you want to make in your body paragraphs. You can & should ask your group for help. Remember, you need three different points that will support your claim. You may use the outline or the REEL bubble sheet and fill in the first bubble.
  6. Do Now: Wednesday, March 12th Please find a seat at the table that best describes the progress you have made so far in your argumentative essay. For example: If you fully understand the claim and the introduction paragraphs, have a seat at the body paragraphs tables. If you are confused about the claim and introduction paragraphs, have a seat at the introduction paragraphs tables. If you have not started the essay, have a seat at the not started table.

  13. Do Now Review: Writing Conclusions How’d you do!? While both characters have valid reasons for wanting to control the fate of the Piano, Boy Willie's reasons are much stronger and more practical. While Boy Willie understands the importance of the piano's tradition, he knows that selling the piano will allow the family to have some financial stability that they currently do not have. Similarly, he has the support of friends and family who would ensure the land Boy Willie plans to buy will be cared for a looked after for future generations. While one must always keep the memories of their ancestors alive in their hearts, there comes a time when one must step out from the shadows and turn the page to a new chapter in life.
