  4. Problem in display • Many Web pages are too complicated. • Lower display resolution (generally 640x480) 　　 ↓　 HTML guideline for Web access from TVs is necessary. (Like Compact HTML for small information appliances)

  5. Problem of WWW access via phone line Telephone charges are expensive in Japan. 　　　　↓ VBI data broadcasting • Push technology • HTML data is sent to TVs • Access via phone line when detailed information is needed.

  6. VBI data broadcasting Two different ways in Japan • Bitcast (by INFOCITY) TBS, MBS, Fuji TV • ADAMS TV-asahi and 24 ANN stations

  7. VBI data broadcasting • Not related to the TV program broadcast • Need hard disks to save the contents broadcast (for PCs not TVs) • Life of disks are shorter than TVs 　　　　　　 ↓ • We need VBI data broadcasting tuned for TVs

  8. Conclusion • Easy manipulation by remote control unit • Lower display resolution →HTML guideline for Web access from TVs is necessary. • VBI data broadcasting for TVs is necessary.
