  1. JFHS FAIL SAFE SESSION 1

  2. WHAT DOES FAIL SAFE MEAN? • At JFHS, we believe that you only fail when you • Don’t put the very best effort you can into your learning while you are at school • Thereby creating the maximum amount of opportunities you can have while you are here • And having some control over your exit plan from school

  3. SO, HOW ARE YOU GOING? This is a really good time to reflect.

  4. SO, HOW ARE YOU GOING? Don’t tidy up one area for show, and put all the mess behind the door.. Like Anna did.

  5. SO WHAT JFHS DOES TO SUPPORT YOU INCLUDES • The Mentor Scheme • Your assessment policy and schedule • Experienced and expert teachers, supported by experienced and expert faculties • Careers advice • Conversations

  6. PARENT TEACHER NIGHT • It is your last parent teacher night – last chance for interviews of this kind with your teachers • Students may, by negotiation with teachers, attend the interviews • We are holding a parent information session afterwards on tips to help them support you during the HSC year

  7. WHAT EFFECTIVE STUDENTS DO • They realise that they are the only ones who can control their own behaviour • They do a lot of planning and work when they are not under pressure – Quadrant II planning • When they are under pressure, they think of ways to work on their problems • They think about how they learn and use those methods to learn • They do actually work – they extend themselves and never make excuses

  8. QUADRANT I: URGENT AND IMPORTANT QUADRANT II: NOT URGENT AND IMPORTANT TRY TO LIVE ABOVE THE LINE QUADRANT III: URGENT AND NOT IMPORTANT QUADRANT IV: NOT URGENT AND NOT IMPORTANT

  9. WHAT EFFECTIVE STUDENTS DO • They act independently of others • They are positive and proactive • They make learning a priority • They say no when a bigger yes is needed • They put the big fruit in the fruit bowl first (they schedule in the big items in their planning) • They build good relationships with their teachers

  10. WHAT IS A WASTE OF TIME • Worrying without acting on a plan to help yourself • Finding scapegoats for your anxiety • The Ostrich technique • Being dismissive of working hard

  11. THIS WEEK TRY... • Summarising this weeks worth of key concepts • Asking one of your teachers where you are up to in your skill level when you book your parent teacher appointment • Focus on eating and sleeping well • Saying no to a distraction (that might mean saying no to yourself, too)
