  2. Updating Equipment Update the TV equipment on campus so as to provide better learning for students and also make a better product to put on air. Turn Southern TV station into a business. Functional Theory: using communication to promote sound reasoning, prevent errors and build productive relationships among members.

  3. KGCS 22 Station…. Our news station is using equipment that is 20+ years old and rely totally on generous donations for any new equipment and software.

  4. What is the problem?... The communications department is a publicly funded FCC licensed station that has no cable access. AND we must serve our community interests. … We cannot make money off of our stations through commercials and because of that we cannot be financed properly to get new equipment.

  5. Interviews

  6. Why is this so important?... It limits our competition to other schools in the area Students are talented with creative ideas but are unable to put them into production. We are missing an opportunity to collaborate with other majors at southern and making money off of a better project

  7. Student Questionnaire

  13. Solution… • Turn the News station at Southern into a business • Get rid of old system of only donations for funding and FCC and collaborate with bigger businesses for sponsors and commercial opportunities • Start using commercials to bring in revenue to update our equipment. • Get marketing and business students on board with the station, giving them more job opportunities to students on campus. • Make more student led and different shows available on air so the station is more interesting. • Cut programs and direct the flow of money to the TV station

  14. How to make this happen… • Functional Theory: using communication to promote sound reasoning, prevent errors and build productive relationships among members. • Find sponsors • Buy secondhand equipment from local news stations to cut cost • Have a meeting with the news station director about change. • Ensure the quality and content of the station is better perfected
