  1. Next Generation Attenuation for Central & Eastern US (NGA-East): Introduction Yousef Bozorgnia, Ph.D., P.E. PEER Associate Director University of California, Berkeley

  2. NGA- East • Goal: To develop next generation GMPEs for Central & eastern US. • Sponsors: NRC, USGS, EPRI, DOE

  3. NGA-East Supporting R&D Topics… • Database: Compile a database of recorded motions from CEUS and other Stable Continental Regions (SCRs) • Data are being processed uniformly, reviewed, and QA’d • PGA, PGV, PGD, and response spectra for periods 0.01 to 10 sec

  4. NGA-East Supporting R&D Topics… • Source Rupture Characterization • Source-Site Path • Site Effects • Physical Constraints on GMPEs • Ground Motion Simulation

  5. NGA-East Supporting R&D Topics • GMPEs • Develop GMPEs applicable to magnitude 4-8, distances 0-1000 km • Horizontal and Vertical components • Demonstrate agreement of new models with observed data in CEUS and other SCRs

  6. Organization of Project

  7. Sigma Meeting Today • To explore the issues related to aleatory and epistemic uncertainties in GMPEs • To make a list of action items for the short and intermediate terms • This will be followed by • Another invitational workshop early next year with more participants • A public workshop to pass the progress and obtain feedback

  8. Sigma meeting: Agenda
