  2. What awards are available? • Master’s Research Scholarship: B1 • $ 5000/ term up to 6 terms • Doctoral Research Scholarship: B2 • $ 6667/ term up to 9 terms • Familiarize yourself with the requirements • GPA, citizenship, etc.

  3. Getting Started • Start the application as soon as possible • Register for an account, PIN, etc. to access application forms. • Use your PIN when referring to your file • Can fill application in English or French • French project title is required

  4. Know the Deadlines • FQRNT deadline: October 5th 2011, 4:00 pm • Online submission of application • Supporting documents must be mailed • Leave enough time for reference letters, collecting necessary documentation, proof-reading, etc.

  5. Evaluation Criteria

  6. Letters of Reference • Two letters of reference required. • You may be asked to provide a template highlighting your accomplishments. • Allow sufficient time for referees to write/send letters. • Provide referees with your application number and PIN number.

  7. Collect the necessary documentation Allow yourself enough time to collect: • Official transcripts • All university studies • CEGEP equivalencies • Proof of residency/citizenship • Confirmation for all awards and scholarships • Etc.

  8. List your awards and scholarships • Include all scholarships/prizes and awards you have received, including dates. • Don’t limit your list to monetary awards. Include Dean’s list, Honour Societies, etc. • Include awards of accomplishment for research projects/capstone, etc.

  9. Interest in Research • Why pursue graduate studies in this field? • Justify your choice of university and supervisor. • State of the art facilities? Collaborative environment? • What is your research motivation? • Know what research is required • Why is this area important? • What benefits come from research in this area? • What are industrial applications? • Clearly define your project, if applicable.

  10. Experience • Showcase your talent and potential. • List your conference and journal publications, if available • Need to provide proof of accepted papers • Provide a description of your research experience or training. • Experimental or numerical experience. • Undergraduate research assistant. • Capstone. • Don’t discredit yourself – all research experience is valuable.

  11. Final Review • Make sure responses are clear and direct. Use proper grammar , and avoid contractions and acronyms. • Ask colleagues to review your application for typographical errors and coherence. • Make a check list. Ensure all documents are enclosed.

  12. Check Account Online • Don’t rely on e-mails from FQRNT • Check for updates to your account on FQRNT website –10 day delay to accept award.
