Some background onStudent Support Services • More than 900 SSS programs on campuses nation-wide • Entering its 30th year at UW-Eau Claire • Sister programs include: • Upward Bound (for high school students) • EOC (for area returning adult students) • McNair Scholars Program (for students interested in pursuing graduate work)

  3. Who does SSS serve? As mandated by Congress, SSS serves: • First-generation college students • Income-eligible students • Students with disabilities

  4. What do we hope to do? Students at UW-Eau Claire place well above the national average in terms of ACT scores and High School performance SSS aims to help program participants compete with confidence and succeed!

  7. Career Counseling Guidance with choosing a major or major/minor Free career assessment instruments: • Myers-Briggs Type Indicator • Strong Interest Inventory Assistance with graduate or professional school questions Help with your resume and job search

  8. Academic Support • Tutoring in the Academic Skills Center • Composition assistance • Mathematics, Reading, and Study Skills assessments • Time Management • Test Taking • Lecture Note-Taking

  9. Financial planning and other assistance SSS regularly offers workshops on: • Searching for scholarships • Applying for scholarships • Student financial planning • Degree planning • Tips for successful registration

  10. Perks of the program • Free tickets to campus events • Free career assessment instruments • Scholarship opportunities • Personal college “safety net” • Employment and other opportunities
