This update from the NCRR Office of Communications discusses effective public communication strategies and best practices for the CTSA Media/PR Group. Highlights include the engagement of consortium members in outreach efforts, the contribution of media materials, and examples of successful communications around pediatric research, anesthesia exposure, and women in science. The communication process consists of four key steps: Research, Planning, Communications, and Evaluation. What are the facts? • Planning: Define target audiences and what we want them to do. • Communications: Develop messages and decide on tactics to reach target audiences. • Evaluation: Can be formal or informal; always ask “did it work?”
