  3. Welcome… As team leader in Area 3 I’d like to welcome you to this clinical placement. The Out~patients Department is frequently referred to as “the window of the hospital”, being the first encounter many people have with secondary care services. Hundreds of patients pass through Area 3 on a weekly basis…teamwork is paramount in the clinic setting and I hope you will be made to feel part of our team during your placement with us. On arrival you will meet your mentor and be orientated to the department. The clinic is staffed from 0830 to 1700, Monday to Friday… contact us to arrange your hours of work. We also have a comprehensive Student Orientation Package for you to work through with your mentor… Looking forward to meeting you, Elaine

A flavour of Clinic activity… Postmenopausal Bleeding (out~patient Hysteroscopy) General Gynaecology Endocrinology Fast Track Oncology Colposcopy Menopause Infertility Smears Gynaecology Clinic… all day Monday & Thursday, plus Tuesday & Friday mornings &… Renal Clinic… Tuesday afternoon, all day Wednesday and Friday afternoon Area 3 is home to various Renal Clinics, staffed by members of the Renal Team.

Learning Opportunities…During your placement your appointed mentor will guide your tuition and practice, thus affording you every opportunity to experience all the learning opportunities available in Area3.For example: • Rationale: • …to give you an understanding of: • how the patient journeys from GP to • hospital out~patient department. • how the patients journey progresses • from out~patient clinic through to an • elective hospital admission. Extended Learning Opportunities: Your mentor will organise a visit to Ward 36 and Gynaecology Theatre. Tutorial: Explanation of The Out~patient referral system.
