  2. eSEEurope background • Regional effort within Table II of the Stability Pact • Launched in Istanbul in October 2000 • Constituted in January 2001 Ljubljana, 3.06.2002.

  3. Main objective of the Initiative • To support the development of Information Society in South Eastern Europe • To focus on strategies and measures which promote the region as a whole • To promote benchmarking, best practice and co-operation within the region Ljubljana, 3.06.2002.

  4. Some achieved results: • eSEEurope Regional Action Plan • Network of governments, business community and NGOs • Awareness of the the importance of liberalization and deregulation • Identifying pilot projects Ljubljana, 3.06.2002.

  5. Refocusing eSEEurope Initiative • Stability Pact`s Effort to reinforce regional ownership by transferring Chairmanship to FRY • New regional center in Sarajevo supported by UNDP as a contact point and source of information for the region • Creation of new Agenda and Action Plan, building on achieved results and eEurope and eEurope+ experience Ljubljana, 3.06.2002.

  6. New Agenda SEEurope countries are determined to use the full potential offered by the Information Society -to avoid further digital divide with EU and the rest of the world -to advance their economies and bring prosperity and new opportunities to all citizens -to enable stabilization and democratization in the whole region Ljubljana, 3.06.2002.

  8. We have to make it successful! SUCCESS WILL DEPEND FIRST AND FOREMOST OF READINESS OF COUNTRIES IN THE REGION TO WORK AND COOPERATE TOGETHER Ljubljana, 3.06.2002.
