  2. Eyeglasses • Ever wondered about eyeglasses? • This topic is about the development of eyeglasses. Questions will be answered about the development process and where eyeglasses fit in history.

Standards • Standard 4 • Students will understand and apply scientific concepts, principles, and theories pertaining to the physical setting and living environment and recognize the historical development of ideas in science. • Key Idea 4 • The continuity of life is sustained through reproduction and development. • Example • Eyeglasses are and important invention for humans in that they helped aid humans to continue on in life. Before glasses people were just unable to see. This held them back from doing everyday activities. The development of the eyeglasses was an example of continuity of life.

Standards • Standard 1 • Students will use mathematical analysis, scientific inquiry, and engineering design, as appropriate, to pose questions, seek answers and develop solutions. • Key Idea 2 • Beyond the use of reasoning and consensus, scientific inquiry involves the testing of proposed explanations involving the use of conventional techniques and procedures and usually requiring considerable ingenuity. • Example • Since no one really knows who first invented the eyeglasses it makes it difficult to pinpoint where and how they were developed. Students have to use scientific inquiry and have considerable ingenuity to find the answers.
