  3. Roles of a Puritan Wife • The first being that women were considered to be “the weaker vessel in both body and mind” • Husbands shouldn’t expect much from their wife. • “the Husband is ever to be esteem’d the Superior, the Head, and to be reverenc’d and obey’d as such.”

  4. Roles of a Puritan Mother • Women had direct authority of the children • the mother taught her children religious piety, manners, discipline, and affection. • Most women lost half of their children in infancy, and twenty percent of women died in child birth.

  5. Women's Duties • Childbearing and mothering • Food and Clothing was principal duties. • Women created a trading network for food.
