Role of women in WWI. Women officially served in the armed forces for the first time during WWI, mostly as nurses. World War I also saw for the first time women appearing in the workplace in factory jobs while men were off to war. Treaty of Versailles.

Treaty of Versailles The Treaty of Versailles was the treaty signed in 1919 that officially ended World War I The Big Four at Versailles Versailles placed total blame for the war on Germany, which lost huge amounts of territory and had to pay huge reparations German territorial losses at Versailles

  3. What else was in the Treat of Versailles? • Germany was blamed and made to pay reparations. • A League of Nations was created • No real self determination existed. Nations kept colonies and made new nations without regard the wishes of the peoples who lived their.

How did Congress react to the Treaty and the League of Nations? • Turned Isolationist - wanted no further war or outside contacts. • The Treaty received enormous opposition. • Henry Cabot Lodge and Alfred Beveridge strongly denounced the treaty, especially Article Ten which called upon the US to support League actions. • Wilson campaigned vigorously and gave 37 speeches in 29 cities in a span of only three weeks. He declared that US soldiers should not have died in vain.

  6. President Wilson Dies • After a dramatic speech in Colorado Wilson collapsed. His health had been poor for months and the strain of the trip was too much. • Rushed back to Washington and a few days later had a massive stroke. • For the next year and a half he was incapable of running the government but was protected by his wife and closest advisors. • In March 1921, Wilson’s term expired, and he retired with his wife to Washington, D.C. • He died on 3, 1924.

  7. Congress Kills Treaty • In March 1920 the US Senate finally killed the treaty. • The United States did not ratify the Treaty of Versailles and we did not join the League of Nations. • Wilson considered this a great failure and it plagued him until his death.

Turkey and Germany go off into a corner and whisper. When they come back Turkey makes a point of not looking at anyone.

Germany punches Britain and France with one hand and Russia with the other. • 6. Russia throws a punch at Germany, but misses and nearly falls over.

  16. If WWI Was A Food Fight 9. Italy surprises everyone and throws a punch at it’s teammate Austria and misses, but Austria falls over anyways. Italy raises both fist in the air and around the room chanting “Boo-ya!”

  17. If WWI Was A Food Fight 10. The United States waits till Germany is about to fall over from many punches from Britain and France, then walks over and smashes it with a chair, then pretends that it won the fight all by itself.

  18. If WWI Was A Food Fight 11. By now all the chairs, tables, and windows are broken. Britain, France, and the U.S. agree that Germany threw the first punch, so the whole thing is Germany's fault. While Germany is still unconscious, they go through its pockets, steal it wallet, and buy all their friends Hot fries.
